What a great first whole week! We spent last week getting to know each other, establishing expectations and most importantly beginning to create a culture of community with one another. The kids are doing a great job and taking it very seriously. It was so great to see all of you at Back to School Night last Thursday and share with you the things that make Seven Peaks and our Prekindergarten program so incredible and better than anywhere else!
One of the things to keep in mind in these beginning weeks/months of school is the idea of transitions and long days. It’s not easy for these young kiddos to go from unstructured play all summer to being back in school, learning new routines and making new friends. Sometimes as adults we don’t realize how much work that is for 4 and 5 year olds but the fact of the matter is, it’s tough and not easy. That being said, I encourage you to spend extra time asking your PK kiddo what the best part of their day was, having dinner as a family and getting to bed early.
Here are some of the things you can expect to see in PK in our upcoming week:
- In literacy this coming week we will be working hard on letter recognition and sounds as well as getting to know one another and our friends names. I will be sending home our first sharing activity on Monday. Please have your child return their sharing by Wednesday, September 21st. We will be posting these items on our alphabet wall in our classroom.
- In math this week, we will be working hard on identifying and forming numbers 1-5. We will also do some working with sorting and counting. In the coming weeks, we will be conducting assessments to get a clearer picture on where each student is in the areas of literacy and math. That way we can set goals for each student in the following areas: academic, social and emotional.
Reminders and Important Dates
- Please remember to turn in the additional child information form and the “what’s the buzz on your child” form if you have not done so yet!
- If you have not yet returned an extra set of clothes for your child, please try and bring those this week.
Here’s to another great week!!!
Art with Mrs. Santucci
I am excited to be back at Seven Peaks for my fourth year. I love teaching and learning from your children, and am glad to be back working with your little artists. We begin the school year learning Color Theory. For PK, this means being introduced to color in general and the primary colors in particular. We learn that the primary colors are the foundation to creating all other colors. There is a lot of paint involved, but most of it is washable. I hope to send them home paint free, but even the paint shirts don’t keep everything out when they are in the throes of creativity.
I will be needing volunteers on a regular basis or for special projects. Please let me know if you can help in any way by shooting me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am looking forward to meeting you all at the open house this week and please know, you are always welcome in our classroom!
P.E. with Mrs. Landolt
Hello! My name is Melissa Landolt and I am your child’s physical education teacher. This is my 7th year at Seven Peaks and my 10th year teaching PE. I am a Central Oregon native who grew up in Madras. I have lived in Bend for 15 years with my husband. I enjoy watching and playing all types of sports. During the summer I love to travel and hang out at our beautiful lakes.
This year my classes are going to learn and practice many skills. They will be encouraged to be physically active, develop cooperation and teamwork, increase personal fitness and motor development, and participate in many fun games and activities. Please encourage your child to wear tennis shoes on the days they have PE. I am looking forward to a fun and active year!
