At Seven Peaks School, our goal is to educate the whole child. One way we achieve this is by providing extensive avenues for students to learn and grow outside their core and specials classes. These classes enhance our students’ academic, social, and emotional development. Friday Intensives are by far the favorite part of the week, are an essential component of our educational efforts, and are integrated into the curriculum for our 5th through 8th grade students. Our parents, staff and others throughout the Bend community share their knowledge and passions to our eager-to-learn students. A “short list” of our multitude of intensive offerings include Wintermeister (alpine & nordic skiing), Jewelry Making, Master Chef, Welding, Fishing, Golf, Mt. Biking, Rock Climbing, Hiking, Sewing…and so much more! To find out which intensives are being offered each semester throughout the current year go to MY SPS page.
Wintermeister is one of the highlights of the middle school experience at Seven Peaks! During the winter intensive rotation from January through March students who select Wintermeister as an intensive will meet on Fridays at Mt. Bachelor for an afternoon of either nordic or alpine skiing. This intensive encourages students to stay physically active and take advantage of living in Bend and our close proximity to Mt. Bachelor. SPS staff members supervise students on the mountain, and students and staff benefit from the chance to connect outside of the classroom setting.
All About Dogs and Mindfulness
Students have the opportunity to learn about dog training, the many roles dogs play in our lives, and mindfulness strategies to reduce stress and anxiety in daily life. Dogs play a huge role in comforting people. Professional guests throughout the community come with their dogs who have the job of comforting others. Service dogs, therapy dogs, crisis intervention dogs, avalanche dogs, and even puppies come into the classroom! Students learn relaxation techniques, the power of being present, and the benefits of practicing these skills in everyday situations.
This intensive is a great opportunity for students to step into the kitchen with a knowledgeable instructor to learn the fundamentals of cooking and baking. It includes equipment and food handling safety, shopping, preparation, recipe modification and more. At the end of each class, fellow students critique and enjoy their delicious creations!
Indoor Rock Climbing
Students will learn and develop their climbing techniques in a cutting edge facility with high quality routes, comprehensive climbing programs, and general fitness activities while promoting life-long healthy habits.
