SPS offers a diverse selection of enrichment opportunities for students, and Garden Club is one of our extracurricular activities for elementary students. Students learn how to plant seeds and nurture them to fully mature and food-bearing plants. We grow a range of plants in our outdoor garden, and students find great satisfaction in taking part in a project where they see the physical result of their labor.
There are so many benefits to building with LEGOS. Looking for the right Lego piece strengthens sorting skills, which is a key part of the kindergarten math curriculum. LEGOS can teach how to think in three dimensions; a precursor to physics. Children hone creativity, problem solving, and teamwork through LEGO play.
Lego Club is offered to elementary students after school on Wednesdays, beginning in January. There is a different building theme each week. Parents must attend the first meeting for the first 15 minutes. Lego Club is held in the music classroom. PK students are required to have a parent attend. Parents are welcome to buddy-up if that is easier. Parents are required to pick up their child promptly at 4:15 pm.
SPS believes in nurturing the wellbeing of the whole child, which means we provide opportunities for students to exercise more than just their minds! Running Club is open to all elementary students who want to burn off some extra energy and go for a run. Students who would like to participate should meet in the lobby during elementary lunch on Wednesdays, fall and spring.
