On Friday, March 17th from 8:00-10:00am the 8th grade class, once again, had an IB Community Project meeting. This service learning based project was launched in January and the 8th grade students have been meeting once every month since to develop their personal passions and interests into action in our local or expanded community. This month students each met with their coach again to continue research and final preparations to put their plan into action in the community within the next month. Coaches asked that all students plan for time outside the classroom between now and the next community project meeting (April 14th, 2017), in some way. Putting their plan into action can be accomplished in many ways and could look like:
- Students working independently to create awareness posters, website, etc.
- Students getting together with their group for a planning session or to make phone calls for information or volunteering
- Students working independently or with their group to actively volunteer in the local community
We would greatly appreciate family partnership in supporting SPS students to become caring and compassionate young men and women during this project. Service learning is an integral part of building character and has always been at the heart of SPS’s mission and vision. Please help develop this passion in our students by asking an 8th grader about their project and what their next steps are in order to be actively helping to serve another.
Please email our IB Coordinator, Hope Royes, firstname.lastname@example.org, with any questions or concerns about the community project.
