We have already begun our math and writing units! In math, our language is incorporating problem based interactive learning that includes a discussion about joining groups together and the language we use to explore this journey. We will always build our number sentence, then write the corresponding numbers, and then solve it. Eventually, we will learn to stretch our thinking, ask great questions, and continue our exploration. Our children are at a wide variety in their understanding with their number sense- which is the most awesome part of approaching learning with Growth Mindset. Some students will have a different exploration and others are just fine with working and building numbers 0-10.
In reading and writing, we have begun our daily 5 habits. We have combined our Ways to Read a Book for independence with the beginning structure of our “I am“ statements. “ I will always expect your child to sound out their beginning sounds, pull out what they know, and learn to be independent and not reliant on the teacher, and practice, practice, practice. The pictures will correspond to whatever it is that we are writing, and need to have at least 5 colors in the drawing (beginning attention to detail). This will be a journey throughout the year, so be watchful for the incredible growth your son or daughter will make. The sky is the limit with our growth and I cannot wait to explore where we can go with your kids!
Every day, please pack protein rich snacks so that your children can sustain our lively day.
Monday, September 19, Mindfulness Mondays will begin with Banni Bunting at 12:30. More information to come. This will be a journey throughout the year, so be watchful for the incredible growth your son or daughter will make.
Mrs. Landolt, Physical Education
Hello! I am your child’s physical education teacher. This is my 7th year at Seven Peaks and my 10th year teaching PE. I am a Central Oregon native who grew up in Madras. I have lived in Bend for 15 years with my husband. I enjoy watching and playing all types of sports. During the summer I love to travel and hang out at our beautiful lakes. This year my classes are going to learn and practice many skills. They will be encouraged to be physically active, develop cooperation and teamwork, increase personal fitness and motor development, and participate in many fun games and activities. Please encourage your child to wear tennis shoes on the days they have PE. I am looking forward to a fun and active year!
Mrs. Santucci, Art
I am excited to be back at Seven Peaks for my fourth year. I love teaching and learning from your children, and am glad to be back working with your little artists. We begin the school year learning Color Theory. For 1st grade, this means color mixing to create secondary colors. There is a lot of paint involved, but most of it is washable. I hope to send them home paint free, but even the paint shirts don’t keep everything out when they are in the throes of creativity. I will be needing volunteers on a regular basis or for special projects. Please let me know if you can help in any way by shooting me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org Please know, you are always welcome in our classroom!
