IB MYP Overview
The educational philosophy of SPS has always been grounded in more progressive educational thinking. At the heart, we believe we can make a better world through education. As a school, we have designed a coherent and comprehensive curriculum framework that provides academic challenge and develops critical life skills. We believe that success in school is closely related to personal, social and emotional well-being. The foundation of our teaching and learning is built on three principles: holistic learning, intercultural awareness, and communication.
The framework of our unique 6th-8th grade model is the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). It is intended to inclusively support adolescent students at a time when establishing identity and building self-esteem are most critical. The structure of our program allows students to build on their personal strengths and to embrace challenges in subjects in which they might not excel. This model enables students to develop their potential, to explore their own learning preferences, to take appropriate risks, and to reflect on, and develop, a strong sense of personal identity. We focus on how to best meet the needs of adolescents, who are confronted with a vast and often bewildering array of choices in a complex and rapidly changing world. A focus on higher-order thinking skills gives students opportunities to explore their expanding concerns and their growing awareness of themselves and the world, in ways that develop sound judgement.
